Testing Environment
When setting up the testing environment, please keep in mind the following:
• The following test administration considerations can be used with any student regardless of their status as a student with a disability or as an English learner: Small group, frequent breaks, time of day, separate or alternate location, specified area or seating, and/or adaptive and specialized equipment or furniture.
• All materials containing content in the subject area being tested must be covered or removed. This includes but is not limited to posters, maps, charts, and displays that define, explain, or illustrate terms or concepts; mathematical formulas/theorems; posters describing TestNav functionality; graphic organizers; multiplication tables; 100s charts; definitions; writing formulas; reference books and models that are within view. It is not necessary to cover or remove calendars, posters displaying the alphabet or consonant blends, or posters displaying the Pledge of Allegiance.
• All personal electronic equipment not related to testing are prohibited (e.g., cell phones, iPods, personal document scanners, eBooks, electronic pens, smart watches). The only exception is that the test administrator can have a cell phone to use for emergencies. Do NOT take pictures of TestNav screens, even if trying to problem solve.
• Some students may finish testing before others. When students finish, they should check over their work and then sit quietly and read a book or magazine that is not related to the content being assessed. Students cannot use any electronic devices at this time.
• Post a testing sign outside of the room door.
• Prohibit unauthorized visitors (parents/guardians, school board members, researchers, reporters, non-testing students, and school staff not authorized to serve as a test administrator or proctor) from entering the testing environment.
